The painting was done in July 2007. We had a new house built and hired Joe Scott to paint the whole interior as well as varnish the stairs.

As Joe lives locally, I've known of him for a long time and that his family was in the painting business. Joe had done some painting work for my family previously, so when I needed the house painted, I asked him for a quote. I went with Joe because I felt he would do a good job and his quote for the work was very competitive. Some of the quotes we were getting from other painters were beyond ridiculous.

We had some ideas for colours and we discussed these and other ideas with him. We have an open plan house — kitchen come dining come living room — and it was very important that the rooms and contrasts work. We wanted Joe to help with colour ideas and to make sure everything matched. I have a very modern looking kitchen and I had thought a yellowish colour would look nice. Joe showed me how burgundy would make more of a statement and it has. It's absolutely fabulous and everyone talks about it. The colours in all the rooms really work together.

Joe is totally reliable, very efficient and his work is fantastic. I can't rate Joe highly enough for the service he gave us and the job that he did. He never let us down. We got a fantastic painting job done with absolutely no hassle. Every room was done meticulously. My own family is involved in the building industry and they say Joe's paint work is incredible. Joe painted the whole interior of my house in 2005. I spoke to someone who had previously used Joe and they recommended him to me. They said he was a talented painter and his work was excellent.

I had a few ideas but nothing definite. Joe sat down with me and gave me options on colour schemes that would go well together, paint that was good to have with kids around, and what paints to use in high traffic areas. It was a big help.

The project ran 100% and I'm delighted with how it all came out. One thing I liked about Joe is that he's easy to talk to. He doesn't carry any attitude and he listened to us when we told him what we wanted or had any questions throughout the job. I found Joe to be very mannerly and nice to deal with which is pretty rare these days.

We own some apartments that we rent out and they needed re-painting. The work involved painting a bathroom that had been damaged by tenants, some bedrooms, sitting rooms and dining rooms, halls, landings and stairs. I heard about Joe from his sister when I was trying to find a new painter that I could trust as they would be going into tenanted apartments. I wanted a good, clean, well-done job. No decorating as they were rented apartments, just basic and plain but well done.

Joe was a big help with regard to advice and suggestions on colours.

I wanted the job done quickly and efficiently, in and out, and it was. A big bonus of having Joe on the job is that he's absolutely spotless. You want your property to be left in a clean state. It's ridiculous when you have to use your own time to clean up after contractors. That wasn't a problem with Joe.

Joe's reliability and the quality of his work was superb. The finish is the main thing. People think all painting is the same but it's not. I've seen paint jobs that others have had done and it doesn't compare to the quality of mine. Those jobs were very DIY and they paid top euro for it. I also like the fact that Joe is not one of those contractors who are pushy, always telling you what you need to have done.

I've recommended Joe to friends. He's top of the list when people ask me. I'm living in the West now and if I could have Joe down here I would love it.
